the A320 plane was ade by a company called airbus they started making this plane in 1984 they wanted to make a plane that is better than Boeing planes
the word 232 in the name is important it means this plane uses a special engine , this engine is made by a comapy called IAE some other a320 planes use a different engine made by CFM
its was not easy to make this plane , France wanted to give to give money , Germany was not sure , the UK did not want to give money at first , but in 1984 the UK said yes
this planes flew for the first time on 22 feb 1987 this was a largest moment its was first plane to fly using computers to control it, before this planes used wires & cables only
the first A320 plane was given to air France in MAR 1988 , british airways got their plane soon after that , both airlines started using this plane the same month , british airways used it to fly to europe & North Africa , this means British Airways was one of the first airlines to use this planes in the world

old planes used a big wheel with wires going to the wings & tail , the a320 changed this , now it uses computers , the pilot holds small stick , the computer know what pilot wants and its move
This computer system also keeps the plane safe, if the pilot tries something dangerous . like turning too fast , the computer will stop it, this called envelop protection his idea came from military jets , airbus people looked at how many planes used computers , they tried this on another plane first before using it on the a320 this was a big risk for airbus
many pilots did not kow how to fly a plane like this , but it worked , now almost all new planes use this same idea Because of this , pilots can lerans other air bus planes easily too, a pilot who learns the a320 can also fly the a319 & a321 with very little new training
this plane become very popular , by 2026 airlines had ordered more than 19700 a320 planes , more than 12500 planes were already given to airlines , it is now the most used plane in the world
Design
the a320 232 body is made to be light & and to save fuel , new planes have strong , light materials in the body & wings
the wing tips have small parts that go up , these are called wingtip fences , they help the plane use less fuel ,
inside the cabin in wide , British airways says this is the widest single aisle cabin you can get , this gives passengers a little more space , but seats are still 3 on each side of the path in the middle
the cockpit has big color screens , the pilot uses the small sidestick . not a big wheel

here is something interesting , the seats are the same in both parts the only change is that is club europe , the middle seat is empty there is a cyrtain between the two parts the crew can move this curtain , if more people want business seats , the curtain moves back to make club europe larger
the plane can carry up to 180 people , new seats are made of leather and have headrests you can move , some seats at back do not go back
